I have a Bushmaster .308. I took it hunting this afternoon. When I got ready to leave the woods, I attempted to clear the weapon. The charging handle comes back about 1/4" and stops. The forward assist is NOT interfering with the bolt. The rifle is clean, the ammo is Winchester-new and clean. I'm hesitant to beat on the weapon-the live round thing. Any suggestions???
Thanks Tom I'm going to post in a couple of forums, hoping for a quick response. |

Sound like maybe something broke or got stuck back in the buffer tude?? I might try to point the muzzle up and hold my head back and firmly jar the butt of the rifle on a solid surface. And see what you get. This might dislodge what ever is holding things up.
Becuase with the bolt 1/4 back. And i assume not able to go back foward. There's no way to seperate the upper from the lower. |

Could be the buffer retainer and you could remove the stock( depending on what type of stock assem. you have on there ), unsrew the tube and see if the buffer retainer is keeping the bolt carrier from moving back . I have seen this happen some times, just make sure if it is that retainer ,you assem. the tube, retainer, its spring and buffer assem. correctly.
I really don't like pounding a AR type rifle with a loaded round in the chamber . |
