what do you feel is the min distance that you need to use a 4x optic? would an acog be worse than iron sights, say for room clearing? right now i have an eotech...but toying with the idea of magnified optic |
| I own a TA31F which is presently mounted on my issue M4 that I carry daily here in Iraq. It is just as easy to clear a room with a ACOG as a Eotech with a little practice. One thing that I have found useful is using the 800m mark as point of aim when shooting under 25m, its almost dead on if your zeroed. |
| ACOGs work just fine at close range. You just have to practice with the BAC. Once you get used to it it works very well. The EOTECHs and Aimpoints require little to no practice to get used to at close range, but the ACOG really shines at longer ranges. A good compromise might be one of the lower powered compact ACOGs. I believe they make a 1.5x. |

I switched from a eotech to a ta31f about 3 weeks ago and have been practicing room clearing alot. It will never be as quick and as easy as with the eothingy but with alittle more practice it will do. Personally if i was room clearing i would just turn the rifle sideways as hitting a person at 20 feet by using hand, eye coordination is no problem and faster. Any further and i use the magnification with no problem and at high speed. It took me awhile to figure out if i wanted to spend the money on the acog and lose the eotech and it turned out to be a very good choice. Lots of advantages and i lost nothing, only need to practice new techniques. |
