i just got my m&p 15t from smith &wesson because it was auto firing.  i inserted a magazine and pulled on the charge handle and released it but the bolt locked back and the handle didn't slam forward.  i pushed it forward and had to hit the catch release for the bolt to close forward.  they supposedly did a trigger job and test fired it but there is no way they test fired it or they would have noticed this problem.  what do u guys think.  i'm calling them on monday

Are you inserting a loaded magazine or an empty magazine? From your description it sounds like your inserting an empty magazine. In that case the bolt will lock back when the CH is pulled and will not ride forward.

could u please explain the operation of having a loaded and unloaded mag as regards to the bolt and handle

When you insert an empty mag, and pull the CH to the rear, the mag follower under power from the mag spring, pushes up on the bolt catch. The bolt catch then locks the bolt to the rear.

If you then hit the bolt catch button and hold it down, you can ride the bolt forward back into battery, latching the CH.

Normal operation.

Get somebody locally to help you!  Gun smith/friend/shooting range ect.  You are dangerous!

Read the manual!  Get someone to physically show you how to operate the weapon.  And there IS a way S&W test fired your gun isn't there!

If this is a serious question it is no problem, but you really should have taken them time to research this yourself when you got the gun, it is basic function.

Nothing wrong with asking questions. We were all there at one point in our lives.

I do suggest you download and read the operators manual. Get familiar with the operation of your weapon.
