| I'm starting to put my pennies away for my first AR-15. I've been a long-time pistol shooter, and I've finally decided to pick up a long gun. I know I want a really compact weapon, and I really like the looks of the Wilson Combat UT-15. I want to mount an EOTech reflex sight as well as a surefire tactical light. Has anyone had experience with the UT-15's? The other option would be a Bushmaster AK A3 carbine. Of these two, which is the better rifle? Cost isn't really a major factor--I'm looking for the best weapon. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks! |

I have never used a UT-15, but from the looks of them, they don't seem to be worth the money. They don't have anything that you can't get from another company for HUNDREDS of dollars less, minus the "Wilson" name, whatever that may be worth to you. That quad-rail looks laughable at best, and that "special finish" is basically the same stuff you can get from Brownells ("spray and bake"). I have had, along w/ many people I know, bad experiences w/ Wilson and their customer service. I owned a Bushy AK A3 carbine, and did not like it for various reasons. I would personally look at other Bushy models if you heart says you want one, OR look at Rock River Arms. Lately I've made a lot of posts about how good I think they are, so I'm sure people are getting tired of it, but they really are a great value. I love the EOTech. I'll be buying a second in the near future...Check out BigAnt for prices; his deals are great and his is a pleasure to work w/. ADCO has GREAT prices on RRA, so take a look at what RRA is pushing. Just my 2 cents worth, take it w/ a grain of salt, but I hope it could be of some help. |
| I have to say skip the Wilson as well. Get a Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite or Rock River with a Daniel Defense, Knight's, Troy, or Larue rail system. You would have a better rifle with a better handguard/rail system for a couple of hundred dollars less. Look around this site alot before you make a decision on which to buy. Get a good feel for all the available options and configurations. Read as much as you can and ask questions on whatever you aren't grasping. A few months from now, you'll be better suited to make a purchase. Good luck and welcome aboard. |
| I would love one of those UT-15s but I'm thinking they probably aren't worth the money. If you want quality with a reasonable price, go Bushmaster. If you read enough threads on this site you may even be able to build your own rifel which will save you money and allow you to build exactly what you want. |
