ok well i got my stripped lower yesterday and ordered everything else. my question is for those who have just finished or are in the process of finishing their first build.
this will be my first also and i have read all the info on this site but was just curious as to what tools, lubes etc. some of you guys used.

i figured since ill probably be waiting on parts for a bit id go out and pick some stuff up, possibly check out the gun show for some stuff like a spanner wrench, mags and such.

thanx

nice tho! i just finished my first build. are you buying a upper with the barrel attatched? or seprate? i went the seprate route. i had help from those here at ar15.com and my local dealers. get some sort of molly lube from a auto parts store (a real auto parts store like napa or parts plus will be more likely to have it) and you will need a barrel wrench and action block (so you dont crack your upper when you put it in a vice) and a vice. or you can do what i did, went down to my local gun shop and they let me use their vice and action block and barrel wrench. the lower was easy only special tool i needed was the wrench for the car stock and that was a little tricky to get on straight but noing to special.

i ordered an assembled upper so no vice on my first build i completely spaced out the car stock wrench when i went crazy on all the order forms, but hopefully i can pick 1 up from the gun show next weekend, if not ill just have to order 1 from eagle.

To do an AR assembly, all I really need were roll pin punches, a hammer, and a file.  Although, I did buy the front pivot pin detent tool.

Just completed my Mega lower/RRA midlength upper build.  Sat in front of the computer and put the lower together using the directions on this site.  I used a hammer and small nail punch (to drive and set the roll pins), needle nose pliers, masking tape (to protect the finish on the lower) a craftsman strap wrench for the stock nut, and a small amount of gun oil.  I installed the detent for the front takedown pin in a large ziplock bag.  It kept the detent from shooting across the room.  I was surprised how easy it actually was to build up a lower.  The RRA lower parts kit fit beautifully.

What's the file for?
I just completed my first upper and am waiting for my lower parts kit, so I better get the scoop on this.

I used a M1S parts kit, so I had to file down the pivot pin detents to a point where they would work.  Also helps in case the upper/lower don't mate.
