Got my new RRA new logo lower today from EagleFirearms.net(3 days). Im like a little kid with a new toy so I started putting it together when I got home. All in all it went pretty good, its altogether exept for the front takedown pin/swivel pin and the bolt latch. I even got the trigger and hammer in the right way the first time. Had to buy some roll pin punchs, they sure help. I dont have a vice so I have to wait untill tomorrow for my son to come over and finish up the last 2  items...I need a third hand. I can see the front takedown pin is going to be a real sob to get the spring and detent in. the bolt latch is just so close to the side of the lower I dont want to mess it up. I did flatten the head of the trigger pin but its no big deal, one of these days I'll get another and redo it. How much of the spring should you cut off for the pin detent(swivel/takedown Pin) to set down into the detent hole so I can get the front swivel pin in??? I think I should probably use tape under the bolt latch roll pin(just where you have to hit the roll pin) so I dont bang up the lower. I think I could put one together in about 20 minutes now that Ive did one, not that complicated but a few of the correct tools sure dont hurt. Any suggestions on the bolt latch roll pin and the front takedown pin detent, Ive haerd about the baggie thing but the spring comes out of the hole a little to much I think, Ive heard of people shortening them...is that best and how much.

Isn't Chris at Eagle Firearms service awesome! [:)]  OK, here's one way to do it, take a piece of wire like a straightened paper clip, stick it in the hole and measure the depth, make sure it's deep enough for your spring and pin, if not, you can clip off a little bit of the spring to make sure it will fit, not too much! It will probably take several tries to get the detent pin in, keep it in a bag of some kind because it will go ballistic!  Safety glasses would probably be a good idea also!

I put about 3 layers of masking tape on the side of the receiver before installing the bolt catch pin...it wasn't enough!  Find some thin cardboard, like on the back of a legal pad, tape that down to make sure you don't scar up the receiver.

Hope this helps! [:D]

Thanks wingman26, the thin card board sounds better than tape. I'll check the hole size with a paper clip, guess Ive got all day to make it work :)eaglefierarms is a great place, helpfull and quick, Chris is a good guy. Id recommend them to anyone.

Do most people cut the front spring? Just wondering, I just built my first lower and did not need to do this.

i've built 4 or 5 lowers and have never cut the spring.

here's my trick for the front takedown spring;
take the buffer retaining pin and place it in the front takedown pin hole with the 'nipple' end facing away from the spring hole.  use a punch with your fingers helping to hold the spring and detent and push them in the hole.  slide the buffer retaining pin over to keep them in the hole.  take the front takedown pin and slowly slide it in the hole with the groove facing away from the spring and detent.  once it's in far enough turn it until it clicks.  easy.  i've only had 1 or 2 shoot out from the lower.

I've noticed a fair number of posts where they have to trim just a little, maybe not all, but there are some that need to be trimmed slightly.
