The 653 and 723 are my favorite carbines. Much more than the earlier ones. I gues the 723 has the shell deflector. It is my understanding that 723 and 733 are close and maybe easier to do with a C7 upper. I'm not sure if the 723 had the Burton bump and the 733 did. Maybe a mix of parts as a rebuild would be correct. I'm building a 723 or 733 myself. The pic of the rifle you posted is awesome looking and something I would build and enjoy. Are you buying that rifle and redoing it or building one like it HKILLER? |

723's can have regular A1 uppers also. My Colt catalog scans show this. The earlier 723s did have A1 uppers and they started using the C7 (A1E1) type upper towards the end of production. Most of these had the heavier profiled 14.5" barrel with the M203 cuts. |

723's can have regular A1 uppers also. My Colt catalog scans show this. My clone Colt 723 looks exactly like Colt Brochure from 1988. Including large button forward assist and no brass deflector. I'm not sure for explanation of flat slip ring. Either import or transition carbine. Great looking rifle. https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=123&t=677983 " />
