Need some ideas for my first, and hopefully only, light.  I plan to keep it on my nightstand primarily.  I also need to be able to have a quick-mount for an AR rail.  And I want to be able to carry it while camping/backpacking.  I'm looking for solid metal, with the grooved front & rear for striking if needed.  I think 2 AA battery style also.  I'm not interested in the name brand as much as the quality.  If surefire is my best option, so be it.
Any of you light gurus know what models I should consider?

Surefire E2D, great little light IMHO.  Takes two CR123's though, not AA.  Nice and compact, strike bezels on both ends, and can be converted to LED.
With the right mount, it is great on an AR.

You may consider our Elzetta ZFL-M60 Light with Crenellated Bezel and High/Low Tailcap Options and an Elzetta ZROC Rail Mount which allows the Light to be installed and removed quickly without tools.  The High/Low Tailcap allows simple and intuitive changing from 15-lumens to 235-lumens.
