how do i know if mine is milspec or commercial. it is on an armalite, but i dont think it is original. is there a measurement i can take?

I have a related question then. Will a mil-spec and comercial tube both thread into the buffer tower of any receiver or is it similar to the old "Colt large pin vs. small pin" thing?

They both fit the threads in a receiver.
