Just reading some material online.
It says safety selector can not be on safe unless the hammer is cocked. How do you tell if the hammer is cocked? I know you cock the hammer by pulling the charging handle back.... Thanks guys, I have never owned an AR before or any semi-auto weapon for that matter. |

You answered your own question. If the hammer is back you can put the weapon on safe. Or you can shotgun it and see if its back. Or you can rack it once, look in the chamber to make sure its clear and then pull the trigger. What does shotgun it mean? Just shoot it with out knowing if there is a round in there? lol |

While in this position you can see if the hammer is down or remove the bolt and carrier. Looking like a break action shotgun. |
