Hey is it normal to smell a little burned powder after chambering the first round (using the chargin handle)? My bushmaster in 5.56 chambers nice and the charging handle is easily pulled back and I dont get that powder smell from it..but my dpms 308 feels like its chambering a rocket haha..and in doing so it kind of distorts the tip of the bullet...It doesent feel like anything is wrong with the rifle..it just seems like its a bit stiffer and tighter then the bushmaster..but again I smell the powder after chambering the first round with the dpms...thanks.

You are using your CH by pulling back then letting go on a loaded mag, thus chambering a round...right?  If so, sounds like you smell the friction of the CH mixed with lube and wearing of the anodized finish.  If you have not shot a round, you will not smell the powder.

hey ya im pulling back on the CH and letting go. So thats the smell? Ya I lubed up the bolt (and the rest of the rifle for the most part)  with break free CLP. So that smell is normal? I see on the bolt carrier that the finish is already scraping off on the rails. No have not shot it yet.
