Here are some pics of recovered 458 Socom bullets. 3 of the bullets were recoverd from fire wood logs that were shot during Thanksgiving (stump shoot). The last was recovered with a metal detector from a 250 lb hog I shot a few months back. The bullet from the hog was a 405 gr. Rem. jsp. The hog was facing me and the bullet went in the neck and traveld all the way to the ham. The bullet if pictured with the quarter.
The other bullets from the stump shoot were 2 barns 300 TTSX and 1 350 gr. jsp. from SBR

Very interesting...I have one from a bison I shot a few weeks ago. The butcher is sending me another he found while cutting it up. I'll post some pictures when I receive it. My bullets are 350gr.Hornady RN and I was surprised how little they had deformed, except for peeling the front of the jacket. I had to shot 5 times before it went down and all 5 were lung shots. All too high for the heart.

Recovered this one from a deer under the oposite side hide after a shoulder hit. it was a 300gr Rem expanded to .744 retained 210.8 gr. 1900Fps muzzle, around 1375fps on impact. Laser Range Finder had the deer at around 135yds. Bullet lost it's jacket.

I like the 405gr. bullet best. It does shed its jacket but it has the weight to keep on trucking. I was told that the 350 rn was meant for the 458 win mag and probably didn't have enough velocity in the socom to mushroom. The Barnes bullet is a great performer, but I don't think it would be my choice for buff's. I would love to shoot a buffalo someday and I would probably use the 405 gr rem. or a 350 to 400 grain hard cast bullet. That's a big animal.
