| i was wondering if i want to build a firearm for personal use what are the laws and regulations about it? |
|
I assume you are talking about building one from scratch...
As long as the weapon is otherwise legal, and you are not a "prohibited person", it's legal. A lot of guys finish 80% lower receivers and build them into rifles. They have no serial numbers yet are still legal. The only gray area is if you are building a lot of them and selling them. Building a handful of them and owning and shooting them for a while is totally kosher though. I think the rule of thumb is 5 guns per year and you wanna hold onto them and use them for a few months at the very least. |

so do think that applies for building like a sten or something of booklet or inernet plans? Not if you are talking about a full auto weapon. It has to be otherwise legal, such as a semi-auto AR. If you are building a semi-auto Sten then you would be good to go. |

ok thanks yea i dont plan a any full autos just want to try and build my own guns and didnt want to go to jail thanks I hear ya... I really really want to do a few 80%'ers myself. I am a machinist by training, but don't have access to a milling machine. |

i was wondering if i want to build a firearm for personal use what are the laws and regulations about it? The Rules Here is the one and only source of correct answers when it comes to firearms. "I read on the internet" or "my buddy says" doesn't cut it. Go here and find out what you need to know. You can construct your own firearm. There are things you must do and it has to be marked certain ways, but it is 100% legal as long as you are clear to legally own that type of weapon. Its when you go to sell it that you need to watch the rules. Do some reading at the ATF, not hearsay on some internet forum. While there is a wealth of good information here in the end the ATF is the one you have to answer to. Ignorance of the rules doesn't cut it with those guys. |

I have a buddy with a 4-axis Bridgeport CNC milling machine. I sent him some .igs files from cncguns.com (AR15 lower + A2 and A3 upper, 1911 frame, AR10 lower). He already tried out the 1911 frame on a wood block. He said it took about 20 min to cut. Now if I could only find a 1911 slide and AR-10 upper file.....
I do believe the next few weekends are going to be pretty interesting |
