Hi all, I was hoping I could get some help in removing the castle nut on my dpms ap4 carbine.  I have the spanner wrench and tried turning it counterclockwise to loosen but it wont budge.  I sprayed break free and waited a few hours with no results.  I am trying to replace the end plate.

If the castle nut was not staked, then chances are a thread locker was used on the nut.  To break such a bond, the castle nut is heated to just above 600*, with the flame source aimed away from the lower receiver.  When the thread locker bond is broken, you will smell a sweet smell.
Note: Don't go buck wild and heat the nut until it glows or turns red.  You want to keep the heat source moving around the nut to evenly heat it up to just above 600* without discoloring the nut or tube.

As for it the castle nut was staked (should be able to see the punch mark on the nut), then it will just take a bit more force to loosen the castle nut back away from the receiver/back plate.

Just 'lick' it a few times with a butane or propane torch. It's probably blue loctite and will break free easily.
