anybody know any smiths who offers this service? i've got a noveske barrel on a used upper I purchased locally that I found to have some light rusting on the barrel extension. I am going to be replacing the bolt/carrier with a failzero full auto bcg so I figured id replace the barrel extension while I am at it. I have heard that replacing the barrel extension can slightly cant the gas port to the indexing pin but if I am running a low pro gas block is that really an issue?

Long story short, no.

I'm sure you could find someone willing to do it after looking for awhile, but the odds are they will either screw it up or charge you an arm and a leg or both. It is a REALLY hard thing to do correctly and you are better off buying a new barrel at that point.

Clean up the rust and shoot it

The odds of a new extention lineing up with the gas port and being properly headspaced are slim to none, so you would need to have it rechambered also.
Then the chamber end of the barrel may have to be turned down for bolt clearence.
If you have to turn down the shoulder of the barrel to line up the extention with the gas port, it will change the lenght of the gas port in relation to the gas key on your carrier and you may need a custom built gas tube.
I do install barrel extentions on new builds, but have never replaced one, I've even turned down good deals on barrels that have the extention removed just because of the time and work to reinstall it.
When I do a new barrel, I drill the gas port hole only after the barrel has been fired and everything checks out.

As stated, very bad idea.

You'd be better off removing the barrel from the receiver, masking off/plug the barrel and abrasive blast the extension and reparkerize it.

It is not that hard to do, but it is not inexpensive.  Most competent smiths could do it, but cost effectiveness is another thing.

As said above, don't do it.  Several other options.
