Depends on if you want something hard, soft, discrete, or screaming "I've got a gun!"
You need to ask this question in the Sling and Accessory board or the Tactical Gear board.  Lots of info and several current threads running on this subject already.

I usually use Pelican myself unless whatever came with the gun is good enough. Granted this is for pistols as I'm a pistolero foremost , but I'm sure their rifle cases are just as good. Best cases I've ever owned, for anything, hands down. The only downside is you do pay money for their outstanding quality. But... your weapon/other valuable never gets damaged, never gets humid and damp even if you live in a place with constant 250% humidity like me, and you can hurl it across the room at full force and the only thing damaged will be the wall.

I've heard good things about that case, but I personally have no experience with it.

I have found that those cheap ones from Walmart work fine for me.

I’ve got Pelican cases, Eagle cases and Galati cases. They’re all great cases, but

The Pelican is expansive (relatively), big and heavy.

The eagle cases are also relatively expansive, I don’t like to get them dirty, or messed up.

The Galati cases are much less expensive, very durable and very protective. My Galati cases are the ones that get out into the crappy conditions and weather and have come through with flying colors.

I have the eagle discreet case and have never had a problem with it. Very well made, and mine has had it share of use! Its been dirty, muddy, in the rain, you name it. Plenty of space and compartments for mags, ect. just my 2 cents....

I bought one of these years ago:

in woodland camo.

You can cram two AR mags in each pouch for a total of ten.  Or 5 AK mags (barely).  This is a pretty good deal, strong zipper, low price and adequate padding.  It has a velcro closure on the handle as well.

I'm planning on a Pelican myself.  I've got their cases for other more delicate gear than guns, and they're more than worth it.  Yes, they're heavy, yes they're expensive, but they're near bomb-proof.

I have a pelican 1750 and it is great.  My only complaint is the thing weighs a ton.

right now I have a very well made carbine case made by one of the top companies (Eagle) and I am extremely happy with it but the case in the above link is what I really want.  It cost about half the amount of my Eagle and it offers a ton more.  I really like the fact that it is MOLLE compatiable and you can configure it any way you like.  I will definetly be buying this case in the near future

Snagged a starlight when SAM's club was selling them for like under 100 dollars.  Another ARFCOM team member picked up one for me from PA and shipped it and it was still under 100 dollars.

Excellent stuff.  I've seen the picks where a hummer runs over it and it doesn't break.

The only rifle cases I use are made by Eagle Idustries

In my opinion they are the best

If you like the ease of a soft case but sometimes want the protection of a hard case, just get a soft case and a pelican with no foam.  When you need the extra protection put the soft case inside the pelican.  I know a few sniper that do this with their drag bags.

I'll do that.  I'll load it down and take it to work w/ me to break it in the right way.
