how many rounds do you think are average for an AR 15 brl?

How many rounds are necessary for the starting accuracy (what ever that may be) to deteriorate, say open up an 1 inch more at 100 yards.

Is 2000 rounds a lot?

would you think accuracy would have deteriorated at this level? if so what accuracy was it and what is it now?

There was an AR for sale that had 2000 rnds through it.

A friend of mine (not an AR owner.... YET...) was appalled at the high count and thought the brl was shot out for sure...

I just wanted to get some opinions.

I have put about 3000 rounds through my Bushmaster 20" upper and have found no change in accuracy.  Still very accurate at 200 yds.

No, 2,000 rounds is not a lot. No, the barrel should not have much in the way of ill effects at that point.

Was it chrome lined? If so that's only about 1% of the barrels service life.

A lot of it will depend on how it was shot... Single shots spaced out, or rapid fire? Of course the seller might not be too accurate on that part.

I've shot 1,000 rounds on a weekend a bunch of times... It ain't a lot.

I have a ArmaLite 20" Chromelined that has about 20,000 rounds through it and it still shoots like new

I also have a DPMS 14.5" Chromelined with a pinned Vortex that has about 18,000 rounds through it and it still shoots like new

For a semi auto with normal use? 10K minimum

You can burn a full auto out in as little as 4-5K if you try hard enough.

2,000 rounds is certainly too many!

I uh... "know a guy" that will dispose of the barrel for you for a fee of $50

He will remove the barrel from your weapon for an aditional $25

This is a good deal, you should do it!

Depends on how the weapon was fired.  You can totally fubar a barrel very very quickly if you want at a sustained full cyclic rate of fire as quickly as you can swap mags.  However, under normal "sustained rate of fire", Colt as an example gives normal barrel life, from 30,000-75,000 rounds.

Here is an example of round count 10,000 in two days

On a semi--related note

I read that future SOPMOD packages or maybe it was on the SCAR weapon system will include a round count "meter"

Not sure how it is to work, but is a good idea

(lost about 3-400 "My Favorites" bookmarked reference pages or I'd give the Link)

The round counter will be added to the M4 SOPMOD as soon as they figure out how to get the thing to work [never was clear to me how the thing works]... My impression is that they're going to stuff the device into the pistol grip.

It will not only count the rounds fired, but other things... Such as how close together said rounds were fired [which has a big impact and how the weapon will hold up to it].

It'll also be on the SCAR... Assuming they ever get the round count meter working as they like.
