What brand of rifle? If it is something that was not factory built, then what parts were used (lower receiver and lower parts kit)? The AR15 weapons system is designed so that the Hammer has to be cocked in order for the Safety Selector to be in the "Safe" position. If the Hammer is uncocked (forward so it is resting against the back of the firing pin), then the Safety Selector has to be in a "Fire" position and cannot be in the "Safe" position. The reasoning for this is that when the Safety Selector is in a "Fire" position, there is a machining relief cut that allows the back of the Trigger to come up into that space, and when the back of the Trigger goes up the front end goes down to release the Hammer from the Hammer/Trigger Sear engagement. If you rifle is not allowing you to put the Safety Selector into the "Safe" position after firing a shot, then the hammer is most likely forward and riding against the back of the firing pin, if this is what is occurring then is it happening when you are still pressing the trigger to the rear? Im aware of that and at first i thought maybe the hammer wasnt caught by the trigger so i pulled the trigger and the weapon did fire just not sure what is different everytime i cycle by hand the safety works fine but when cycling by firing it causes the safety to bind will take it apart and look to see if anythings loose like a primer or something that may be binding it, have had the upper and lower seperated several times and didnt notice anything will pull the trigger group and safety and look closer. |

If the hammer riding the back of the bolt carrier assembly as it travels forward, you could get several possible outcomes like a locked up action mid travel, light primer strike with no ignition, and primer ignition.
