Does this mean that the small aperature will be sighted in at the same distance as the large?  If so where can I get one?

Yes, the zero should not move between small and large apperatures if you do your part.

I ordered this rear sight from Brownell's after using a AR fitted with this sight at a local 3 gun (only rear aperture)front sight post still original
