Sorry if this has been covered extensively elsewhere.
I recently purchased an Armalite AR10 A4.
I plan to use this for target shooting as well as hunting our version of white-tail deer, (which in SC don't get much bigger than 180 lbs and are mostly taken at 100 yds).

I'm looking at the Leupold VX-III 4.5 X 14 either 40mm or 50mm. My gunshop reccomended trying the Boone and Crockett Reticle; possibly illuminated.
Does anyone have any experience with it? Looking at the Leupold catalog it seems the Varmint reticle looks pretty cool and might be more applicable to both applications. (I'm new to long range plinking however.)

Any help appreciated.

I have 3 VX3's with the varmint reticle on my prairie dog guns. I can do pretty good with a range finder on the first shot. Follow up shot are a breeze if you see the impact.

I would recommend verifying the drop and wind effect on your actual load at several distances to get a good idea on how your load matches the reticle.
