Levels and a plumb bob...

First, good quality scope rings will center the scope over your AR.

The next step is to level the rifle.  I use a simple bubble level.

I take out the bubble level out of its frame.  I place it on an empty slot along the flattop receiver.  Look through the scope at the edge of a nearby house, 100+ yards.  I align the verticle crosshair on the edge of the house, while the bubble is centered.  Then, slowly tighten the rings holding the scope.

Since I have two scopes for more than one AR, I use Leupold Quick Detach rings with my Weaver V-16, and use a Rock River Scout Rail with my Bushnell 3200 10X (its that mil-dot one).

Hope this helps.

I don't have a laser bore sighter, but I hear they work well.
