Looking at a entry level scope for a new bolt action don't have money to put a expensive scope on.  choices I have narrowed it down to are
Vortex crossfire 2
nikon prostaff
burris fullfield 2
redfield revolution

Any opinions appreciated.

Revolution probably best on that list, but none of them complete junk. The ProStaff can be had reconditioned for a big savings if you are willing to gamble on the 90 day warranty...

Love my revolutions. We were comparing the Bushnell dusk and dawn, konus 3-9, IJK 1-4, redfield battlezone, redfield revolution and a vx-2. For under $100 the bushnell was not THAT bad. of the scopes we compared top 3 were vx2, redfield revolution then the Bushnell D&D.

Also we just got in a few of the Droptine's from Burris. I may pick one up to try it out. Initial Quality was nice.

VX-1 would be better. About $220 most places.  Worth it.   Revolution next best.

Nikon is running some good sales on their own website right now. The basic 3-9x is $150. I've got a Pro Staff on a hunting rifle. It's a good scope for set it and forget it type use. Nikon's ballistic software works very well with their BDC reticle too.

Nothing like recommending a $3,000 scope to someone asking about scopes in the $100-$200 range

I'm pretty sure that was a joke relating to the usual ARFCOM tendency to ignore stated budget constraints. I had a good laugh, anyways.

When you're Blackfoot 7 you recommend very pricey optic solutions to people who ask what is the best cheap scope to buy.  It's what you do.

If you want to save 15% or more on car insurance you switch to Geico.  It's what you do.

CS can be shaky at natchez but they have this burris e1 for a steal:

This scope is half off right now. http://www.natchezss.com/2-10x36-tactical-precision-scope.html

I really like mine, glass is clear, illumination is good and the turrets are set up very well.

ETA: Here are two groups I shot with it yesterday.  Targets were at 107 yards.

I think the Burris timberline series are great. they have a one inch tube. they dont break. they are compact, have plenty of eye relief, and you can mount them low because they have small objective lenses which leads to a good cheek weld.  They make them in 3-9x32 and 4-14x32AO. they are an all purpose scope.

I;d go with the 3-9. they used to make a 2-7x26, and that is one of my favorite scopes, but the 3-9 is still very good for hunting.
