[ARCHIVED THREAD] - scratch in paint

Hello all,

A friend of mine accidentally scratched the finish of my upper reciever pretty deep so that now the unfinished metal is exposed. I'm not very concerned about how it looks but I AM concerned about the possiblity of rust developing on the scratch and then spreading to the rest of my gun. What type of paint or other liquid could I apply to this scratch as to seal the scratch from outside moisture?

If it is an AR receiver it is aluminum. If you want to cover the scratch just buy a small bottle of Testor model paint. Degrease and apply with a toothpick.

Aluminum won't rust, you'll be fine.

Birchwood Casey makes Aluma-Black in a convenient applicator pen.

I find a black Sharpie also works.

haha if it won't rust then I dont care....just makin sure its not gonna b a pain in my ass down the line

I think they look better when they have a few scratches on them. They look like they have been used.
