Ok guys im looking into building a ar pistol but thus question really doesnt pertain to pistols alone.  I found the lower I want to buy at TomSawyerMfg.com and its inscribed at the AUTO position.  What I want to know is if I put a selector from a m16 in it so it will rotate to the third spot it wont make it shoot more than semi I know and thats what i want.  I just want that cool factor to rotate it there.  Has anyone discussed the legality of this since there wont be any other m16 parts in it.  I guess as the law reads its not a machine gun since it shoots auto, but im not so sure about that whole pieces part of it.

I would like to start this project soon and start gathering parts for it but if its a bad idea ill just find a different lower and go with the standard lower since its alot cheaper.

Thanks guys.

The lower is the jolly roger if you have seen it. Labelings are Parley for safe, arrgh for fire, and plunder for auto.

It's generally considered a bad idea to use any M16 fire control group parts.

Unless rendered unuseable for M16 duty...
Like a hammer with the hook ground off.

Right, forgot to mention that caveat.

IIRC, just using an M16 selector will make the rifle function as SAFE-SEMI-SAFE. Generally you shouldn't have to worry about anything. However this endeavor is rather pointless.

It could cause you more problems than it's worth. Just my .02

I have done just what you want to do.  I neutered the M16 selector by grinding down the ridge which depresses the disconnector and then by epoxying a half moon key into the slot for the auto-sear leg.  The gun functions Safe/Semi/Semi
