I have a friend that just built his first lower and he has a small problem with the selector switch.  The switch moves to the fire position fine but it moves to the Burst/FA position to go to safe.  It will not go to the correct safe position.  He says that he can do a function check fine on it.  Does anyone know what is going on?

It sounds like a full auto selector it will be safe in safe, fire in fire and safe in auto

The hammer must be cocked to put an AR-15 type on SAFE.  What's he's actually got right now is technically safe-fire-fire, as the only thing keeping the semi trigger from firing is the "shark fin" of the AUTO position hitting the closed back end of the semi trigger.  A different semi-spec trigger or FA trigger will fire from that third position, so it is not a true "SAFE" position.

When he cocks the rifle it either goes up ti fire or to the right (FA/Burst) side, it will not go to the correct safe position at all, but when it is in the FA/Burst position he can not pull the trigger (just like in safe)    And to the above poster, it is installed on the correct side.

Then besides having an FA selector, something else is defective, too.  pics of parts might help

did he accidentally buy a left handed lower parts kit? only thing I can think of for why the selector lever is backwards.
