| So my father has a Ruger SR-556. He asked me to take a look at his selector switch because it doesnt "flick" to the firing mode like mine does on my Spikes Tac lower. I removed his grip and removed a few coils from the selector switch detent spring (as i did to mine) to see if that would free it up a bit. But nothing... You literally have to push the switch from the safety position all the way down to the firing position. Does anyone have any ideas to help him get that crisp "click" with a simple downward motion on the switch. Appreciate the help...... |

I would have done a further disassembly to determine where exactly the switch is binding during that motion. It is possible from what you describe that the switch is over sized for the hole in the receiver. However it is also possible that the tip of the detent is very sharp and the spring pressure is still too great. You must see how the saftey/selector moves with only the receiver and the S/S in contact. Good luck. PS: Never cut springs or remove metal until you are triple sure that is the only solution. Saves lots of money in the long run.
