I am new to this and need a little direction.. Can someone explain or direct me to a location which explains the different types of front and rear sights commonly found on factory AR15. I see on here where the different types are mentioned using acronymns, but it gets confusing to me. I have a colt 6721 bone stock. I know its a AR15A3. The sights are on the carry handle and are adjustable. what would they be called?

Those are A2 rear sights. It's also a removable carry handle, so you can take it off and replace with any number of other fixed rear sights, flip-up rear sights or optics. You'll hear people refer to "BUIS" which means Back-Up Iron Sights. BUIS are just what it says - back-up to your primary sighting system which is usually either some type of red dot optic or a rifle scope.

Thanks for the explanation. However, now I have another question. Why did this post get moved from the AR15 general discussion forum to the Hometown forum? I could understand it getting moved to the sight section but why the "hometown section" which is for local type discussions. I not upset. Just don't understand why this section.

I'm betting on brain cramp when they moved it. Maybe a mod can fix it for you. Not that we mind helping but you're right, you'd probably get a ton more replies in the right section.

Your post probably got placed here by mistake.
Go to the arfcom  home page and in the upper left side, just under the bolt face logo click where is says AR15

You will find the technical forum there that should answer most of your questions.
