the spring on my dust cover keeps sliping at the reciver.  anyone else have this trouble? is there an easy fix besides taking the rifle apart and replacing the spring?

Sounds like the arm that bears against the reciever at the left end of the spring is a hair too short.

The only real fix is to remove the spring, and either tighten that last coil to lengthen the spring a bit, or replace it. You CAN take the unit off without pulling the barrel assy, but you have to be careful. Cover the work area with a large white sheet, which will let you find the c clip when it falls off the needle nose pliers (and it will, believe me).

Take the smallest needle nose pliers you can find, push the rod to the right with your left thumb, and pull off that tiny c ring at the right side of the shaft. When it's off, you can push the rod to the left, toward the rear, and get the assembly out.  Put a piece of elctrical tape over the place on the forward assist hump to keep the rod from scratching it as it comes off.

Getting the c ring back on after you've replaced the spring can be a bear (usually takes me about 10 minutes), but it can be done[:D]
