i just bought a two loop adapter and i think i might have bougth some no name junk at the fun show. i never heard of the brand but i thought they were all pretty much the same. its from a company called the mako group.
here's my question. i went to slide it on the buffer tube and it wont go on. its a mil-spec tube and it wont slide over the threads. is this a common prob with sling adapters? do i just need to run a file on the inside? |

Trash it and buy a quality one. I like the magpul asap but there are others out there that do a good job. It's probably meant for a commercial buffer tube. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile comm vs. mil-spec buffer tubes have diff threads? i knew the tubes were diff diameters but that one is new on me.

commercial or mil spec makes no difference. That is why you can use either kind on any gun. It probably has a bur on it. Frankly, what is your time worth? I would simply hand fit it, which should take all of 5 minutes with a file, and make it fit. Spending time chatting up customer service, mailing it back and waiting for a new one is a giant waste of time and energy.
Magpul makes good stuff, but their sling adapter is a jangly annoyance. I switched over to something much cooler and simpler, but this site apparently blocks images hosted at other gun forums, so I can't share it with you all. |

The magpul asap may jingle around but it's made so that it's harder to get the sling in a bind. Besides, if you're shooting your gun, you wont notice the jingling. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

i ignored the post about getting a magpul one because i just dont like the whole "its magpul, its the best and only thing you should ever use". but its funny because i wont use any tool except snap on and some of my friends give me crap about that because i wont touch there craftsman stuff.
i kinda like the p-mags (still like gi issue just as much) but other than that i actually hate the new forend and their stocks dont do crap for me. im sure it just has a bur and i will clean it up w/ a file when i can get some time. now i have to go to work. |

Someone just pointed me to your thread. We have never had an issue with fitting for the MD-SA1. There should be no issue especially with a MIL-SPEC tube, if it is truly MIL-SPEC, then there is a problem with that particular MD-SA1 . Please return the MD-SA1 for a replacement - it has a lifetime warranty. You may email me and I will help you with the replacement. Ok, I just grabbed some buffer tubes and checked them with a whole pile of MD-SA1s All fit perfectly, except on one tube - a Model 1 Sales tube that a customer sent in. None will fit the Model 1 tube. The groove in the tube is too shallow. The end plate that came with the tube from Model 1 Sales fits the tube fine, but fits so loosely on a DPMS tube that the tab is only barely below the top of the threads - it would never work. So apparently there is an issue with our MD-SA1 and at least one Model 1 Sales buffer tube, perhaps other brands as well. Who made your buffer tube?

ok. sorry i have been away (my little brother got a 4 day pass from AIT so i went to fort lee and got him).
anyway. i dont know what kind of mil-spec tube i have (kinda building this rifle out of spare parts, the whole rifle might end up under 300). but the threads on it are 1.184" and if i measure the threads to the indent where the nub goes its 1.153". the mako part measures 1.174" I.D. and 1.150" I.D. w/ the nub the colt one measures 1.1865" I.D. and 1.158" I.D. w/ the nub. i will probably just run a half round file inside it, beacause even though i appreciate mako offering to exchange it, its a 10 dollar part and after shipping its not really worth bothering. so i'll just probably file it and hit it w/ some black spray paint. on a side note i picked up a barrel from a friend w/ the sight block and delta assembly for 75 bucks a stripped upper for 60 from spikes. here's how cheap this rifle will be (cuz im half cheap and half poor) spikes order (w/ all the upper parts) $115 barrel $75 bcg, H buffer and spring $100 (at gun show) lower parts $50 (gun show) stock and buffer tube $free (friend........real good friend) –––––––– sub $335 i had a few extra lowers cuz spikes had a half off sale last year |
