My 80% lower is almost complete and I am anxious to assemble the parts kit.

How difficult will it be to strip the lower after I assemble the parts kit so I can annodize or paint it or whatever I decide to do?

Obviously I want to assemble the kit to see that everything fits and to make that progress, but if stripping it back down is difficult, impossible, or involves breaking parts, then I may want to finish the lower before my frst assembly.

And if, in fact, I do need to finish the lower before I assemble the parts kit, I would probably choose an inexpensive finish considering that I would have not test assembled the lower parts kit.  I have seen the home annodizing posts and plan to consider that option.

Am I overthinking this?

Maybe I can assemble some parts and not others if I only want to turn around and disassemble for finishing.

For example...I already know that my grip handle does not fit on the lower.  It is too tight and will require modification.  I will have to decide which piece should be modified and right now, I could modify either or both since the lower is not finished.  After the lower is finished, I will not want to modify the lower to fit parts to it.

Am I making sense or just rambling?

It's easy.Just take your time and don't lose any springs or detents.

Should be fairly easy.  I'd think the hardest part would be the pins for the bolt catch and trigger guard (if used)

This.

Some carefully placed tape might help.

The roll pins will be the most difficult part to remove and install, otherwise, the rest is relatively simple.  Roll pins for trigger guard, bolt stop.

If you want to take it back apart after checking the lower, you can just skip the trigger guard and bolt catch roll pins.

You can hold the parts in place using bits of drill rod or music wire from your local hardware store.

5/64" will be big enough to hold the parts for test assembly without damage to the holes.

Some grips are hard to get started but will wiggle right on once you get them started. Magpuls are tight. I'd mike the reciever web and make sure it's out of spec before I removed any metal. My print show .375" +or-.
