While both of those would technically protect the threads, neither of them are DESIGNED as a thread protector.
A basic thread protector that does nothing else is just a small cylinder, threaded on the inside.

Much like this:

And to answer the original question, I can make 1/2-36 thread protectors.
Mine will be smooth on the outside.
Just let me know the diameter and length you want it.

But those just look so...plain.

He did not ask for a flash hider or a comp/brake.
He asked for a thread protector.
Plain=simple & shorter than the other options.

Simple is exactly what I'm looking for.
I took a factory 16" RRA 9mm barrel and put it together with a flat top upper and through a tubber over it. Barrel just falls short of poking out and I would ratehr have an extended thread protector than have the muzzle blast causing havoc with gas preassure in the spot it would be in.

O.D. of the barrel where the thread protector would meet it is .720"
I have no clue whatthe tread pitch is on this but if it helps like I said, it's factory RRA 9mm so whatever flashider they put on is what it was threaded for.
The length, 1 " long. The fact that it is going to be smooth is all the better.

AR15barrels ,
Please let me know what something like this would cost. i would like to wrap this project up as soon as possible.

Thanks,
M.G.
