So supposing that you have a post-ban Colt rifle complete with box and all.  If you thread the barrel for a flashie, do you think it harms the resale value?  helps it?  DOes nothing to it?  Impossible to tell?

That's entirely up to the buyer.  If the buyer is a collector, it hurts it.  If he is not, like most of us, a proper thread job increases it I would like to think.

I guess it all depends on if a guy intended to own a comprehensive Colt collection. But remember that a "true" collector wants his guns unfired NIB. You wouldn't go that far, would you?

Me? I'd hate to think that anything as new and plentiful as an MT series Colt as "collectible", but I've been known to be wrong about lots of things . And I shoot my AR's!

I've personally threaded the muzzles and installed GI (bayonet lug) FSB's on several MT6400C's, MT6551's, MT6601's and MT6700's for both myself and friends. I've also replaced the plastic buffers, buffer tube spacers, and buttplate assemblies (hate those plastic hinges) on my Colt rifles.

I even took an MT6700 and replaced the barrel with a Colt A2 GI barrel to build an A4 clone, so obviously I don't consider the collector value of these Colts. Hell, I even replaced the trigger assy. on my CR6724 with a JP single stage 'cause I shoot better groups with an under three lb. single stage trigger (it's my varmint rifle).

To each his own!

I will, however, admit to having a pair of mint SP1's (carbine and rifle) that I'd never modify!
