Is there any kind of touch up paint I could use on my AR? I have a few places where the paint was nicked off and want something to touch it up and prevent it from rusting there.

thanks,
spencer

what part of the AR?

if it bothers you, you can try anything from krylon to gun bluing to a sharpie...

my opinion: dont worry about it; rifles are ment to be used and the finish will eventually wear

Look at the birchwood casey line of touch up paints from brownells.  I like the flat personally.

Here is a link.

Sharpie I guess would work. I wouldn't worry too much about rust, these rifles are not to be overly pampered. But if it bothers you then touch it up.

Here you go  :

Or at  Homedepot    "chalk board black paint " . However, alumahdye is the best

I get better results with a sharpie over the birchwood

I have used a sharpie and it works fine but there is still discoloration between the anodized surface and the sharpie color.  The brichwood casey blended well with the RRA lower I used it on. I wouldn't worry too much about scratches though because if you use it, its gonna get roughed up

THIS!  It's not a show piece...still it always sucks to get that first nick in your new $1000 rifle.

Aluminum doesn't rust

Sure it will oxidize but that is not a bad thing on AL

According to my 1980 COLT Armorer manual

Lacquer Black ( jet ) Lusterless Acrylic Nitro Cellulose Type
( touch up )
U.S.  TT -L-50D Type 1  COLOR 37038
or MIL-L  19538

Its my old manual but should work

Hope this helps

I love the looks of a well used AR15 or any weapon
