Hi guys,

Brand new to this site and new to firearms on general. I recently picked up a dpms mini sass and quickly decided to replace the sights that were on it. I went with troy iron sights.
Today we dialed them in and the rear sight ended up like this:

My shots were extremely accurate set like this but, man it is waay off. This can't be normal?
Any idea on what this new shooter (me) has done wrong?

Thanks for your advice.

In ARMY TM 9-1005-319-23&P http://www.kdeguns.com/ar-manual/M4%2016%2023Pchange8.pdf they instruct to bore sight the barrel visually when installing the barrel. First, mechanically zero the front and right sights, and setup a distant target 10-20 feet away (a line that is perpendicular to ground). Then look though the barrel and center the line through the front and rear sights in your sight picture; and have the line evenly dissect the barrel's bore. The TM has a diagram to explain it visually as well.

On my AR; I have BUIS; and my front sight is on my free float forend, it was recently canted no more than 1/16th of an inch to the left which caused my rear sights .50 MOA windage adjustment to be 12-14 clicks left. Now that I have readjusted my barrel, my rear sight's windage adjustment is centered.

Thank you for the insight. I'll have to give that a try.
Thank you.

This is a CLASSIC Troy Garbage sights symptom thread.  I've seen this dozens of times on various forums.

you could also check under the sights and make sure there is no stickers or burs ... anything other then smooth and flat will cant your sight

Thanks.  From further inspection,  I found the floating rail to be out of alignment by an extremely small amout. I was able to loosen it and realign the top rail to the upper.
I think I enjoy the learning and troubleshooting more than the actual shooting.

Is the front sight a traditional front sight base that is pinned to the barrel, a flip up that is mounted on the barrel, or something that is bolted to a railed free float tube?  Can you post a pic of the front sight assembly?

So the CLASSIC Troy Garbage sights symptom can be attributed to a miss-aligned fore end.  Interesting.
