It's a long story, but...any suggestions on how to mount mid-length handguards onto a CAR 16" upper

Chop the front sight and mount a FF handguard?

Or trade the mid handguards for some carbine ones.

Just thinking out loud.

Besides the low-pro gas block? Not really many options besides taking a hacksaw to the FSB...

I've never seen the low-pro gas block, but it sounds about right.  Do you know who has one online?
I was thinking about a small or low gas block for the original gas tube but then add another regular gasblock in front of it just mount the longer mid-length to it...
I really dislike the look of the smaller handguards and the new upper I want to get only comes in CAR length.
Does anybody where I can find a small gas block that a pair of handguards would fit around

edit: Stupid me, you found one.

BrightFlashlights can get you a good deal on the YHM one.

What are you going to do about sights though? You have no FSB, so your only real options (besides a reddot or scope) would be to get a rail-mounted front sight, assuming you have railed handguards or handguards that can accept rails.

I will remove the gasblock and replace it with the new Low Profile Gas Block, then I will move the old dovetail type of gas block (FSB) an inch or two up the barrel and mount the midlength hanguards!!
Presto!

Don't know what you mean by "dovetail", but if it is the std cross pinned FSB, I don't think it would work since the diameter of the barrel under the FSB is slightly larger, take a look at the barrel just ahead of FSB, you would see a slight step up.

By dovetail, I mean a gasblock with a rail on the top for mounting a flip-up front site.
I did notice that the diameter of the barrel under the gasblock is slightly larger than the rest of the barrel, but I don't think there's a problem because the socket head cap screws on the old gasblock could be tightened a bit more to hold onto the narrower area of the barrel.  The old gasblock is simply there to hold the handguards.  The new low profile gasblock will be hidden underneath the midlength handguards.
Boy, a picture would be worth a thousands words!!

The one problem that I didn't consider was sliding the gasblocks on and off the barrel with a fixed compensator in the wayheard
Oh well...blah, blah, blah...

I did this exact same project a couple years back. I shaved a standard FSB.......mounted a new weaver rail type RRA gasblock and a handguard cap directly in front of the shaved block. I used Cav Arms fat no taper mid length guards...they are fatter then all other ones. I did have to remove a little material on the inside at the front of the guards to clear the shaved block....it works, but there is a little work involved.

You would have to install a fake gas block/FSB somehow, like Bushmaster does on their Dissy barrels - except you would mount your forward FSB at the midlength position instead of the rifle length position.  It serves no purpose other than to have a place for your handguards to seat into and to house your front sight.  No gas function what-so-ever.  The rear low profile gas block takes care of the gas system function.  A clamp on or setscrew mounted FSB would make mounting the forward FSB much easier.

OR

Go the RECCE carbine route, which is basically a midlength railed FF system mounted over a carbine length gas system with a low profile gas block.

HK_DUDE, I was hoping to use the tapered handguards.  Do you think that that I would be able to use tapered or are the M4 style fat hand guards a necessity?
Thanks for the "thousand words" mongo001.  Too bad the second image is broken.hinking.gif
