| i have a complete upper w/hvy bbl. the marking on the carrying handle near the rear sight looks like a key hole with three vertical dots inside. anyone know who made this upper? |

The marking on the upper is NOT a maker's mark. It's the marking of the foundry that forged the reciever blank, and tells you nothing about who took the forging and built an upper out of it. The only exception to that rule is Colt, which had the foundries put a "C" on the forging, along with their own ID mark. Rock River, to use the example above, has put out uppers with both the keyhole, and the split A marking. All that means is that they have bought raw forgings from more than one supplier[:D] |

Quoted: very interesting. so these aftermarket companies, j&t, model 1, m and a, rra, asa, could all possibly be buying from the same maker/s and calling them their own??. Understand; that mark is NOT a makers ID. It's the ID of the forging outfit that supplied the taw, unfinished blank to the manufacturer. The manufacturer then takes that raw forging and makes up the piece. It's possible, I suppose, that some of the smaller outfits have their raw forgings made up by sub contractors, but the bigger outfits, like Bushie, Rock River, Oly, etc, build their own pieces from the forgings. |
