what are the thinist(sp) handguards that are available for a carbine gas system, now im not talking about free float handguards, but the thinist two piece ribbed handguards.

and who makes the highest quality metal M4 stock, nowadays factory ar's come with the plastic 6pos. stocks, but who makes the highest quality 6pos. metal stocks like those on older m-16's?

all information is greatly appriciated, and thank you to all in advance

I personally haven't personally seen a metal collapsible stock in years...They would rarely show up on EE when I 1st joined the board. A guy posted a pick of his SBR in the Armory with a metal Coll. stock and several posters had never even seen one....Some of the old timers may know if anyone still makes them..I don't....As for "thinest ribbed HG's, If you're refering to the stock HG's that come with the guns I think they are all pretty nuch the same thickness, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're asking.

Yes, they are factory handguards, but it seems to me on some pictures of ar's some factory styled handguards are thicker than others. Like the Calvery Arms non-taper handguards seem really thick, but in others kind of like olympic arms factory handguards seem really thin..... probably b/c they dont have a heat sheild under theirs, but if you kind of get my drift?

The buffer tub is metal...that's what matters.  If you don't like the standard stock bodies...buy a Magpul CTR.  I did and love it!  Can't help you on the handgaurds.

Carbine (round) HGs are smaller in diameter than M4 (oval) HGs, if that's what you're asking.

The standard CAR handguards are probably the thinnest.  Many manufacturers put these out:

The "fat" ones you're talking about would be the M4-profile handguards which have a fatter, oval profile and usually have double heat-shields:

The below photo from an EE ad shows the difference:
1. buttstock
2. Upper w/ CAR handguards
3. Upper w/ M4 handguards
4. CAR handguards
5. KAC RAS

ETA: nice gun, Derek45.

Quoted:. . . 6pos. metal stocks like those on older m-16's . . .

1.  The M-16 never had a collapsing stock.  Those military weapons with collapsing stocks were always called something else:  XM-177, GAU-5, etc.

2.  This point is a bit fuzzier, but I think the metal collapsing stocks were 2 position IIRC - open or closed.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

Bobby Bowden is doing a fine job - just leave him alone.
