ok i have an ar that i put together. it has 20 different brands of parts on it.
stag barrel cardinal forge upper CMMG lower RRA BCG VLTOR stock milspec buffer tube standard buffer ok this is the first AR ive had problems with. When i use my suppressor, it functions flawlessly. However when i take it off, it is a single shot gun. The bolt comes back, ejects the spent case, and gets stuck when it tries to pick up a new bullet. I then have to smack the stock on something to get the bolt to release to chamber the round. i swapped the BCG with another spare i have and it still messed up. any ideas?? im lost |

I'm no expert, but it sounds like it's not getting enough gas to completely cycle. It sounds like the suppressor provides enough back pressure to overcome the problem. These are the things I'd check,
1 make sure gas block is over the hole in the barrel 2 make sure the gas tube isn't plugged up or something 3 make sure that it's not running dry, causing it to shortstroke. Put some oil on it and run it wet. 4 make sure you have the right spring and buffer for your length of barrel/gas system 5 make sure your buffer tube isn't bent or dented 6 make sure your LPK isn't dragging too much on your BCG It should cylce really easy and smoothly when you cycle it by hand. If you hear a bad scraping sound, that part's probably your culprit. I'm sure someone else will come along with better answers. Just thinking out loud. Mutt |

The only issue is when assembling. I would check the buffer weight, from what i'm understanding, it might be that your buffer is too light since when you take off the suppressor it doesn't work. But it could be the complete opposite, i would try running with a heavier buffer, if you're running an carbine buffer, then try H, if running an H, i would atleast try an H2. from there report back and let us know. |

Sounds like you're undergassed when running un-suppressed. Things to check: Gas Port/Block Alignment Gas Port Size Gas Key Tight (staking) Gas Rings (stupid question, carbine spring, in a carbine stock right? I HAVE seen someone put a rifle spring in a carbine...) the above is the answer, and for this "I have an ar that i put together. it has 20 different brands of parts on it." Congratulations, sounds like you did a great job and had fun while building your own rifle. Parts DO NOT have to match, unless your a little kid and like them that way, for some unknown silly reason....<><....:) |
