| My choices are Yankee Hill Machine 9680 and the Magpul MBUS |

This, none better than Troy |
| what is your intended use for the rifle: home defense, range rifle, or duty use? Also do you plan on just having the BUIS just in case the primary optic fails? If the gun is just mainly going to be used for range work and you're probably not going to ever use the buis, I think either one would work, I'd give the slight edge to the YHM, but just because I'm not a big fan of non metal sights, although I looked at the mbus and it is well made. If the gun is going to see heavy use or you plan on using the sight for the primary I'd save a little extra money and get something better built than the two choices you listed. |
| I use the GG&G MAD rear BUIS I have the 0-600 meter ranging/elevation disc version and the standard version that has large and small arpertures. They are same plane sights. The great thing is I bought them off the EE used and when I needed new bolts and clamps even though I was not the original owner GG&G took care of me..great customer service and a real durable back up sight. |

If you are mounting BUIS as the primary sighting mechanism, then by all means spend the money and go with Troy or similar manufacture.
If, however, you are using your BUIS as a "Back Up Iron Sight", then my advice would be to buy a rig that inter operates well with your primary optic but not necessarily high end. I don't know what your application for your rifle is, but unless it is a duty weapon or you are deploying soon, the odds are that you'll never use BUIS for their designed intention. On the range when your optic battery goes dead, you forgot a spare, and you don't feel like going to Wal Mart. is about the only other use.... Buying and having "operator" grade gear is nice and I applaud anyone who has the money to spend. I balance that with the reality that the vast majority of AR platforms out there will never be fired in anger or defense. |

this is the only way to go. I bought MBUS's and then sold them to get Troys. Now that is all I run. They are worth saving for. |
| 9680 has been great for me I would highly recommend it. I think most people that say troy or nothing are full of it for the most part. I got mine used of the EE and it is wonderful, I replaced the quick detach screw with a cap screw and it looks alot better imo. In my opinion MBUS are more of a true back up system kind of last resort but many run them as primary as well. I really like my 9680 it is sturdy, locks upright, very low profile when folded down, I really dont think you can go wrong with it. |

since this is just gonna be a range toy and home defense gun, I'm gonna have to go with Magpul. Its damn-difficult to justify spending 130$ on something if I'm not even gonna need it. MBUS is a good choice. I don't see why it would restrict the weapon to range-toy duty only. Why would an AR with magpul sights not do everything an AR with Troy sights can do? Are MBUS sights "less than leathal" sights, lol? Having said that, I would choose Troy only for the satisfaction of running well crafted sights on an upper tier AR. It has nothing to do with one being combat capable and the other only good for range use. The mbus are rock solid. |
