I am new to bows and looking to purchase one. I see some on Amazon, but unsure of what to get. w hat is the least i should spend on a decent bow? I am leaning towards recurve rather than compound because i hear it is less maintenance. but if someone can point me to a reliable compound bow, maybe i'll by both types.

I would recommend starting at a pro shop instead of just buying one sight-unseen from the interwebz. Granted, I did that with mine –– a Maitland Retribution VTR –– but I did so after a lot of research, trying a multitude of bows at a couple pro shops, and talking to many people. There was no dealer for Maitland in my area and I was buying his last 2010 lefty bow, so I went direct with him. I changed my order after my initial purchase, so I kept my order with him. He will ship a bow to any dealer who calls him –– without a dealer contract, even ––so if you want one (which I obviously recommend), beg them to call him and order one. Other than that, the pro shop should help you figure out what draw length you are, what kind of recurve or compound will suit your needs, and get you set up with everything.
