Being new to the art of reloading I do not have any data of my own to share (yet), but I have been taking advice from a fellow forum member coconut1 regarding load data for 7.62x51/308 and thought I would share a LINK to the thread he started which has lot's of data for loads he has been developing for running through his 18" LaRue OBR

Coconut1 has error in his posting. That is the problem with referencing links out to other threads. In the 43 Varget 168 gn results he shows an average that is outside the range of min and max. |

Notes\Comments: This is a STOUT LOAD. This load works in MY bolt action rifle with its barrel and chamber. Do not assume it will work for yours - work up slowly and stop if you see high pressure signs.
This load was developed for use at 600 yards and longer due to the wind-bucking ability of this bullet. It is not recommended for short range use as other loads which have much less recoil are available. All of these loads use Lake City brass.
Empty unprimed cases average 179 grains, over 20 grains heavier than Winchester commercial .308 brass. Winchester standard large rifle primers or Federal 210M Gold Medal Match All rounds are seated at 2.800". Brass was trimmed to 2.000" even. 168 grain Sierra Match Kings Maximum loads are as follows: 40.5 grains of IMR-4895 41.0 grains of IMR-4064 40.0 grains of H4895 43.0 grains of WW-748 40.5 grains of AA-2460 41.5 grains of VihtaVuori N150 41.0 grains of Varget 41.5 grains of RE-15 39.5 grains of IMR-3031 You can safely bump these loads up .5 grains, maybe even a little more by substituting the following milder primers: Russian large rifle primers CCI-200 CCI-250 Remington 9.5 standard large rifle primers. Winchester and Federal primers are considerably warmer than these brands. Velocities from every one of the loads will be around 2580 to 2620 fps from a 24" bolt action rifle. Around 2500 to 2525 fps from a 22" M1-A. START AT LEAST 1.5 GRAIN LOWER. Work up in .5 grain increments, which is around 30 fps increase with these loads. |
