So I was just made aware of a company called jdi firearms. Apparently they have the ability to import the sig sg series of rifles...? specifically the 553
This has always been one of my grail guns. But it sounds to good to be true. Especially considering the price tag. Has anyone ever had any expirence with them? |

Yep have done buisness with Dave at JDI and a few occasions. Picked up a Sapr 751 from him awhile back and next a couple 550s should be in next month or 2. He is great todeal with and very quick with reply/responses. He has quite a few models of guns available the 553s you can build to order and are unlimited import along with a couple other models. Some are limited import like 50-100 a run. True Swiss guns what else needs to be said! Deal with confidence with Dave!

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to meet 922R requirements on these pistols if you wanted to SBR one of them?
You will not be disappointed with the 553. JDI is good to go.

How has this been such a well kept secret? I’ve seen US models of the 553 going for 5 or 6 k

I hope they are bringing in more 551LB and 550 models, sure love to have a 551LB

I bought a 551-P from Dave at JDI, as well as a steel lower and a couple stocks. He is good to do business with.
Since I already have a 553 and a 551, I held off on buying one of the 550s that they recently were taking orders for. If you are looking for a 553 they offer a custom build option where you can pick the lower material, finish color, and hardware color and barrel length, and they custom build the gun to your specs. |
Oh my. I think I'm going to have to put a 553 at the top of the list. Get rid of my garbage 556xi.
I wish I could still get my hands on a PE-57 preferably in 308....or at least even a parts kit I could rebuild.
Pretty interesting, relatively unknown gun. Seems like only a few parts kits came to the country and the rest just disappeared. |
A 553 Commando is one of my grail guns. Probably can't afford one of these right now, though.

They are indeed cool. Mine is in the original 7.5 Swiss. I'm still sitting on another parts kit but barrels are hard to come by. https://i.imgur.com/ZLE5yQW.jpg View Quote let me know if you're ever looking to get rid of one of those kits, lol. I'm curious of what would be needed if one wanted to build a kit into a 308 or if it's even worth doing at all. |

I read that people say that the AR15 has better ergonomics than the SG55X rifles.
What do they mean when they say that? |

For those that haven't seen it yet and need some extra motivation to get one.

View Quote The use on controls for an AR15 are indeed very well placed (safety/selector, mag release,) which make it faster to manipulate. Better ergonomics doesn't necessarily mean a gun is better in other aspects (quality of materials, fit of parts, durability, etc. etc) My Sig 556 layout for controls in my opinion is not as good as an AR15, (factory selector is not as good) but it is better than most and the guns are fairly well made and comfortable to shoot. LV's video on the Russian pistol 553 - love it! |

The 550’s (limited to 50) and the 551LB (limited to 51) are all sold out. JDI is a good company.
They do sell accessories. The ergos are better on an AR, but the quality of a SAN 55x is fantastic, lot of money for a range/collection gun, but they are very nice. Mag prices will give you heartburn though. I stopped at 4 mags, just senseless after that. |

Per the Facebook page, he is in Swiss-land right now. I imagine he'll have more info on shipping dates when he returns.

I've only seen info on the US 556 lowers (mated with Swiss uppers). They work with PMAGs but need a relief cut on the trunnion to accept USGI mags. It's about a 1/16" difference.
http://www.sigarms556.com/threads/the-other-way-around-556-551a1-lower-on-my-sg553-upper.14378/ Not sure if the SAN (Swiss) AR mag lower uses the same dimensions. It's not available in the US as far as I know, unless JDI imported some. |

Will JDI have any spare parts kits for the 55X, I would like to get some spares for my Sig 556 - springs, pins, etc. Not sure what is compatible.
I've been waiting about 2 years for JDI to let me know they have 55x braided recoil springs. ($35 I think.)
I have the US version from Wolff, but the braided spring feels smoother. |
I recently got a SG553R from JDI as well.
Very nice quality. |
For those that have ordered 553's, did you get to pick options? gray vs black metal, green vs black plastic, sights or rail?

Was the JDI 550 sold as a rifle or a pistol? Anyone have photos?
JDI was unable to obtain import approval from ATF for the 550 last I heard.
No. That's dated info.
Apparently it's outdated and superseded, since JDI's website reads: SG550, $3400 TBD, 50 to be imported, 20.7", ATF Approved, 1st quarter 2018 delivery, SOLD OUT View Quote but if you have knowledge of the situation, feel free to share. |

If you had newer info, all you had to do was say so. I stated my info was old when I posted it.
