I never had much interest in the 10/22 takedown when it was released. For me, the broken down rifle was still too long to derive much utility for the feature.

That being said, I'm thinking seriously about buying a charger take down and building a take down SBR with AGP folding stock, suppressor and Bushnell Holosite. It this configuration, no part would be longer than 10" so it would easily fit into a small backpack or laptop case.

Something similar to this but with the can and optic. Before I commit to this, do the takedown models have a truly 100% repeatable zero capability with something like a red dot?

Mine has been perfect. That will not always be the case as with every thing made by human hands. Mine will hit a quarter at 50 yards with Tech Sights.

Yes, it will be fine as  long as you follow Ruger's instructions on how to adjust the locking ring. I tested a TD rifle by taking apart after each shot of a 5-shot group, and it held POI just fine.

the way to get zero shift in poi is mount the red dot on the barrel

first production batch is at the anodizer now. first one in public hands will be at the end of this month (donated to fundraiser auction). we might send out a few to gun blogs and reviewers, but afterwards, they will be available. we will have to get cracking on the second batch, since the friends/family list is a little longer than planned.

ETA: the point of my earlier post is, you can use a welded on, bolted-on, or dovetailed on system to mount sights directly to barrel on a takedown, charger, etc, as long as the sight has long eye relief. red dots work at any distance, so it should work well on a rifle similar to OP.

for my takedown bullpup, it works with scopes too.

good god look at the engraving area on that beauty.....I could have some serious fun with that in the Laser....

Oh Snap.......Why the Hell did I not think of using the 10/22 takedown as a SBR.......I have a Stainless one in the shop right now.

This solves one problem - but it's over your 10" limit:

Keep that lock ring properly adjusted (as tight as possible seems to give me the best results) and you should be g2g.
