| The trigger on my old 10/22 is very heavy. Any suggestions on how to lighten it up? It feels like its about 8 - 10 pounds or so. |
+1. I have the Volq one and their are websites with detailed pics on removal. It was about $15 from Miday. (gunsmith discount) |

home.earthlink.net/~nrwilson01/triggermods/ DIY Friendly. I did it to mine and the trigger is around 2lbs |
Im not an expert at triggers, but I noticed just a slight increase in creep. Im considering doing the JB thing, but it hasnt bothered me enough to do it. I shoot the 10/22 for basically plinking, not measuring holes. |

+1 for Hawktech Arms I had the same problem with trigger pull. I got the ,Power Custom,PC 10/22 Competition Hammer $28.95 delivered. Big Big defference. I would go with that or with the ,Volquartsen,VCL 10/22 Target Hammer $32.60 |

I have one that has a VQ hammer in, it had a pretty good trigger to begin with and that was just icing on the cake. I have another one that I put a power custom hammer, adjustable sear, and trigger with adjustable post travel screw, that one is SUPER SWEET!! Sometimes the aftermarket hammers will be creepy, it just depends on how it was before you started, there seems to be a lot of variety between guns. I am working on a new one and got some washers to take up all the play and slack. Actually I got the stuff awhile back but am hesitant to start on my new build because it always turns into an obsession. |
+2 for Hawktech. Fast shipping and good service. I have a VQ hammer in mine and the pull is amazing. A little creepy, yes, but it's such a light pull that the creep doesnt even bother me. |
Oh man. The link to RFC. I'll warn you, once you start down this path, there is no going back. It's a freakin' disease! I love messing with my 10/22's. There are so many aftermarket parts for them, and they are simple to work on. The VQ hammer and the polish job will fix you right up. You can go WAY past that if you want to, but those 2 simple mods will make a world of difference on your trigger. |

Well that was easy. Got the VQ hammer from Hawktech, great service, fast shipping. Figured out how to install it on my own, but the RC forums confirmed I did it right. No install instructions with the hammer. Wasn't sure what to do with some of the parts. Extra parts are okay, right? Oh, and what a difference in trigger pull. As usual, the ArfCom advise paid off. Now about all those other parts for my 10/22...... |
Boy you got that right!! I have most of the parts for my 3rd build but havn't started on it because it's like heroin, it turns into an obsession and I have to have MORE! Go to RFC and search for the custom factory carbine stock pics and the lo dough specials! I'm small so I rather like the size of the factory carbine stock. The worst part of the whole thing is when I have to hog it out to accomadate a bull barrel. The bedding part is a lot of fun to me, I've used JB weld and a kit I got off midway, the kit is a lot easier. I also like modifying the stock, putting in some finger grooves and making it a little thinner and shorter. On my next and final one I am going to add a takedown screw at the end of the reciever so it will be attached to the stock at 2 spots instead of one, an inherant weakness in the system in my book. I also may try a sporter barrel, I already have 2 bull barrels, the sporter would be a nice compromise. Here is my first one, it's heavy and accurate, it was supposed to turn out a different color. Oh well, I can always stick the works on a differant stock. ![]() Here is my second one, I used a shorter whistlepig barrel, it's very light. The stock gun I used was pretty dinged up but I like the color that turned out. This one has the adjustable sear/trigger kit that somone else had mentioned and the trigger is SWEET!!! It took a long time to tweak, I almost gave up. ![]() A close up of the stock ![]() I have a bunch of spacers I'm going to use on my next (and final) one to take the play out and have a more precise trigger, something a little easier to adjust. Yeah, I know I could just get the VQ target trigger but to me that's not really the point. |
Oh no. You misundereducate me. My son is 14. I'm 6"4" and he's already pushing 6'. A shorter stock he needs not. Give it a week or two and he'll catch me at the current rate of growth. |
|
The stocks already are pretty short, they fit me without modification. I chopped off the front part just for looks. If he is small though it is pretty easy to chop them off, and easy to get new ones. Kids grow fast and it's not like the recoil is going to ruin his cheek weld or anything, if it's a small amount he can grow into it in no time. They make a differant model that is not a carbine, I think that stock is longer. Some folks prefer it. |
| I would however say, its the best upgrade next to a bbl...I also put a buffer on both rifles. Its much quieter. Now if my CIII would call me saying my forms are in we could really see how queit it is. Got approved last THURSDAY, mailed on FRIDAY; how long should it take! |
Yep, getting rid of the creep is a whole nuther ball of wax. Somebody out there takes your stock trigger group, polishes and makes some other "secret" mods which is supposed to give you a nice safe trigger pull with a minium of creep. The hammer is cheaper though so I took that route. The tolerances in 10/22 triggers are very slack, I have 3 and they all felt different, that's why there are spacers included with the hammer. You can get oversize pins and more spacers to have a nice tight trigger group, you have to get all the slack out of the system in order to tweak the parts and have them work. I have the adjustable sear kit and it was very hard to get all the creep out + get it to consistantly work. The amt I had to turn the screw was almost imperceptible. Rimfirecentral.com has lots of tips for tweaking your trigger plus tips on where to get nice match triggers, like kidd and volquartsen. I don't think it's worth spending hundreds on a match trigger for a semiautomatic rifle when you can get a brand new bolt action rifle that will out shoot and out perform it out of the box, I work on mine for the fun of it. I have accepted that my trigger will not be like a $300 aftermarket trigger but I've managed to get a really nice trigger using the adjustable trigger/sear kit I got from hawktech. I also have free floated bull barrels and have bedded the recievers to squeak out a little more accuracy (and spend a little more of my time and money!), I don't know if it's worth putting a lot of time into a stock 10/22 beyond that hammer. You may feel otherwise. Hang out at rimfirecentral and they will give you lots of tips for tweaking your .22. Be forewarned that it can be very addictive and before you know it you tie up hundreds of dollars on a 200 dollar rifle that doens't shoot any better than a stock CZ. Of course that's not what it's all about, not for me anyway. That's why I had to complete the ruger 10/22 12 step program. |
| Any feedback on the TT Shooters Technology trigger job? According to what I read on that site, it appears as though he's done his homework on 10/22 trigger mods. I like the price considering that I could easily spend $100 on a pile of aftermarket parts that are not "fit" together. |

Midway has the VQ Hammer & bolt release combo on sale for $24.99 and are in stock. I just ordered mine along with the VQ mag release which is also on sale for $12.99. Shipping is a little steep at $9.25, but is still the best deal I have found. These items won't last long.
