A local shop had this 2018 Uberti produced 1862 Pocket Police .36cal with a 5.5" Bbl come in from an estate sale for $300otd. It looked unfired and only had a couple of dings. When I picked it up the Wedge screw head was mangled and stuck fast until I hit it with kroil and some heat from a butane torch. I managed to damage the head of the trigger screw on my own . Not a fan of soft Italian screws.Luckily those screws were relatively cheap and easy to replace. I stoned the internals, deburred the mainspring, took sharp edges off the frame, lubed, and reassembled. I'm looking forward to trying out the smaller frame size without having to add a different ball size to the collection. It should use the same .380 balls that I use with my .'51 London and Leech&Ridgon. Attached File After doing some reseach, it appears that these little guys can be more problematic than the more frequently seen 1851/1860 series. I proactively replaced the nipples with a set from The Possibles Shop but, OAL looks to be an issue. I loaded five caps and had to unscrew the nipples slightly on two chambers to get ignition. My efforts to find Ampco Treso nipples as recommended by Blackie Thomas were unsuccessful. If anybody has a source on their PN 11-50-30 M5.5x9 please let a brother know. Jedediah Starr Trading took my order and shipped everything else without telling me they were OOS/discontinued. Aside from leaving nipples loose, I wonder If I could locate a small enough washer to fit under the nipples. More to come on that front later. I have used a small circle of thin copper wire to keep the nipples from seating any deeper on a Uberti 1849 that suffered from a similar problem. Form the wire around a round item about the size of the threaded section of the nipple. Slightly flatten the wire if needed (hammer) . Drop the wire spacer in the cylinder's nipple hole then screw in the nipple. |

I ordered up 2nd set of replacement nipples from "Track of the Wolf" with an OAL of .485 that gave me 100% ignition across three full cylinders. I suspect the 1st set from "The Possibles Shop" were a touch too short they varied between .456-.458 OAL. Throwing this up in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation with the pocket models and nipple options since Treso Ampco nipples now seem to be unobtanium. |

Track of the wolf nipples seem to do the trick for reliable ignition. Still getting occasional caps blown under the hammer. I recurved the mainspring to add some resistance and it seems to be greatly reducing the occurrence. 1st 5 shot group yesterday at 15yds. .380 round balls over about 15grains. Topped with homemade beeswax/coconut oil lube. POA was at the #2 in the pic  Attached File |
