I just purchased a Chilean Mauser  in 7mm and I was wondering if they have any value. I paid 280 for it as the ones I have seen cheaper were in worse shape or are missing parts or broken. Did I do okay?

The one I have is all matching minus the bolt. The action and mag follower were covered in grease so it probably hasn't been fired after it was imported.

The bluing is probably 80% or so with almost no rust and is only missing the cleaning rod. The crest is 100% intact.

It has good rifling but the stock is dinged. It appears either in Chile or during import it was banged up against other rifles as there are two dimples from a bolt handle on one side.

Also, there are a few indents from where the the checkering on the rear sight from other rifles dinged the stock. Overall it has dings throughout but still retains all of the original wood finish.

I took it to the range and shot 12 rounds at 50 yds as I had no clue where it was going to hit since it is fixed for 400m at the lowest notch. Surprisingly with a 4" low 6 o'clock hold I was able to hit just above the bullseye.

Did they fill in the crest, serial, and other markings with white paint in the factory because on mine all marking are color filled? Also, the other ones the seller had were also color filled. It doesn't look like cheap hobby paint either.

I have a Model 1912 Chilean Mauser short rifle in 7mm Mauser that was made by Steyr with a SIG barrel. It's a very pleasant mil-surp to shoot.

The German/Austrian contract made Mausers are of very high quality. I don't think you got hurt on the price.

Some previous owner filled in the lettering on your rifle. It used to be sort of a thing. I've done it with a white wax pencil before.

Liberty Tree has your cleaning rod.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out liberty and get the cleaning rod. You're right, the rifle does feel very high quality as the bolt is really smooth and shoots great for being 121 years old.

I have an 1895 like yours, as well as the short rifle variant. You got an ok deal, the quality of these rifles far outweigh their value.
It's a hand built Mauser, rifle, think how much it would cost to build today.
