Recently picked up an SA 1903 (my first) which is in good external condition and has a good trigger.  It was received from a very reputable source.  The rifle was described as having a very good bore, and from the breech end it does look good, however, the muzzle looks as follows even after a heavy-duty cleaning:

Obviously there's some pitting.  Normally I don't get too upset about these things since the bore is tight and generally good (and I'm not planning on shooting matches), but a cruffler friend of mine who visited today said he wouldn't be happy with that if it was advertised as "very good".  Thought I'd post it here to see what you guys think.

Like I said, I'm more into these guns for the historical value and such but he seemed to be a bit iffy on the condition on the bore and said if it was his, he'd consider returning it.  I'm very much on the fence.

Thoughts?

I would send him that picture and say that it is not a example of a "very good" bore. See what he will do for you.

send him that pic....that's not "good" condition by any means.  you can always try to work out a deal where he pays for a counterboring and recrown if you just want a shooter, though I'd be pissed if I would have to jump through those hoops and would sooner want a refund and look for another one

I'm sorry, but no it wasn't received from a very reputable source. They lied. It needs to be returned as having been misrepresented.

Listen to your friend. Return it and demand a full refund as it was "not as advertised".

Thanks for the input.  I will probably send the picture, his description, and the e-mail and see what the response is.  My friend looked up a copy of the description for the rifle last night and sent me an e-mail that said "that just makes me mad" so I think consensus is pretty solid.

Well, that's the thing that's weird and pretty much why I haven't dropped the name.  There are a few boards that would pretty much send out a lynching party looking for me from what I can tell if I were to post the description and the picture –– and would probably accuse me of fabricating it.

I'm guessing this rifle one that slipped by somehow or its an issue of semantics.
