Ever happen to anyone else? One of my packs of silver bear jipped me. |
|
I was handling some 30-06 a few weeks back. I noticed a bunch of tiny specs all on the shelf. Found the specific box they were coming from. Looked like powder. Sure enough I opened the box of Remington Core-Lokt and one of the shells was missing the primer completely. The other odd thing I noticed was that 17 of the rounds had the usual brass colored primers. The other two has nickle colored ones.
One other thing to check for, at least at big box stores, is I've seen some people actually take the Styrofoam insert that hold the shells and swap them with a cheaper brand of ammo. Many of the boxes of 20 are about the same size. What they did was get some more expensive Federal or Hornady ammo and swap with one of the cheaper Winchester silver boxed stuff. So when the box is scanned by checkout, they pay the lower price but actually have the more expensive ammo inside. That's hard to detect unless someone with experience checks every box....which ain't gonna happen. |

I used to work at farm supply/sporting goods store and people would grab a couple rounds from each box and walk out of the store with a pocket full. That's not right, but the above does seem like a good idea. I'd never do it though. I'm too much of a goody two-shoes; however my local dunhams sells Wolf for 8.99 a box..... American Eagle is like 14.99... Value packs are 109.99................................
Local gunshop sells wolf for 5.99 and Winchester 5,56 for 8.99 though. Not tooooo bad. I rather go online now though. |

I haven't got cheated out of any rounds but I did get a wolf round a few weeks back that had a crushed up primer in it. I don't think they know about quility control in russia. QC costs MONEY, and they want to keep costs down. We experience this in the form of lower prices. Unreloadable, steel-case ammo can be expensive too, if you want it to be consistent and with high QC, just look at TAP training ammo. |

I love how Americans are so quick to bust other countries on their quality. I've had tons of split cases with winchester .45 acp ammo, does mean that Americans don't know what quality control is? |

Um... Yes actually |

Talk about getting jipped.
I was at a show when I saw green tip advertised at $750/K. They looked odd and my wife actually commented on how they looked home made. The green paint wasn't square and it looked as though someone had dipped them by hand because some had green paint almost all the way to the casing. Plus the green wasn't even close to being the right green. Some dealer probably decided to make his own green tip ammo and was selling it. This was right after the Obama election so everyone was in a buying mood. Dolomite |
