I just got my 223 50gr vmax bullets and working on a load. I will be using IMR 4895 since that is what I use for my 308's.
My questing is at about what powder charge does the .223 become compressed? Why loading some test carts at 24.7, 25, 25.3, and 25.5gr of IMR 4895 I noticed that 25gr and up the powder seems kinda tight |

That's because the gunpowder you're using is slow for the bullet weight you're shooting. A compressed load is not necessarily bad.
In practical terms, a charge up to about the bottom of the case mouth will all you can use. Any more than that tends to spill when moving the case from the loading block to the press. Plus the compressed powder will push the bullet out of the case if the neck tension is not sufficient. What you're finding is normal, but it might not be want you want. |

yeah, I am really looking for a decent load where I don't really have to worry about the different type of brass I use/or find at the range. Pretty much something to go down range comparable to factory store bought ammo.
Now when I reload for my 308's I do everything precise for tight groups, but as for the 223's I just want a good down range load. |
