| I need to buy some 55 gr. fmjbt bullets for general plinking at 100-150 yards . I can get hornady for $10.00 per thousand more than winchester . Are they better than winchester ? Thanks for any advice , Tom |

Thanks for any advice , Tom No , Buy the Winchester and save your $$ Winchester bullets are known to be inconsistent. Buy the Hornady's, they are proven to be the best bulk bullet for 55 grain FMJBT accuracy-wise. If you want to shoot some groups you will know the bullet is good and you can narrow any trouble you are having down to other equipment or technique. |

Yes, they are MUCH, MUCH better than the Winchesters and easily worth $10/ 1000 extra.
- AG ETA: I've made thousands of .223 rounds with 55gr FMJs. I've used Winchester, Remington, PRVI, Hornady, Lake City, and Sierra. The Sierra's are the most consistent/ accurate for me, but not that much better than the Hornady. Winchesters are, by a large margin, the worst. Hornady is all I buy in 55gr these days. |

The poster stated he is looking for a 100-150yd bullet and I think the Winchesters will do just fine for that. Also I am a bulk orderer so when I look at a $10 per K saving in my world that really means much more $$ saved. If he's only buying 1K then go with the Hornadys. |

I've found that the Winchesters don't seat to as consistent an OAL as the Hornadys, but they're just as accurate.
I was just on Powder Valley's site. Winchesters are $75 per 1000 and Hornadys are over $100. For THAT difference, I'll be sticking with the Winchesters. |

Widener's still has them for the same price as PV's Winchesters. |

You might want to try some of Widener's mil spec 62 grain lead bullets (no penetrator) HERE. |
